Evaluation of N- (3¢¥ , 4¢¥ -dimethoxycinnamoyl) anthranilic acid (Rizaben) on asthmatic attacks and exercise loading tests in asthmatic children

Abstract
The clinical evaluation and exercise loading test were performed before and after oral administration of anti-allergic drug, N-5¢¥ on 21 cases (15 males, 6 females) with childhood asthma who were visited to pediatric allergy clinic in Severance hospital, Yonsei Universy College of Medicine from March to July, 1983.
The mean age of study cases was 7 years and 4 months. 15 and 6 out of 21 cases were suffered from symptoms of moderate and severe degree respectively. All the patients were atopic in nature. They showed positive reactions to various allergens by scratch technique.
The effectiveness of N-5¢¥ was evaluated by detailed physical examination, analysis of asthma diary, pulmonary function test (peak expiratory flow rate) and exercise loading test by free running method.
The results of the study were as follows;
1. 16 cases out of 21 cases (76.2%) showed improvements to N-5¢¥ therapy. This included excellent results in 4 cases, good effects in¢¥8 cases and fairly good effects in 4 cases.
2. 12 out of 15 cases (80. 0%) with moderate symptoms and 4 out of 6 cases with severe symptoms were effective to N-5¢¥ therapy.
3. pulmonary function test (0o PEFR) of the study cases were increased and asthma score and symptom score were decreased progressively after the administration of N-5¢¥(p<0. 01).
4. 9 out of 13 cases (69.2%) with exercise-induced asthma were converted to symptom free state after exercise loading test checked by free-running method.
The above results showed that N-5¢¥ is considered to be clinically applicable to prevent asthmatic attacks, in particular asthma induced by exercise in asthmatic children.
